Debra McIntosh, DMD among the first dentists in Greater Cincinnati to administer Botox® Cosmetic and Dermal Fillers

Mason, Ohio October 13, 2010... Dr. Debra McIntosh is committed to providing her patients the latest advances in dentistry and specialty cosmetic enhancements including facial aesthetics She now offers BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVÉDERM™ as adjunct therapies to her aesthetic dental services. Dr. McIntosh recently received her license to administer BOTOX® and dermal filler treatments from the American Academy of Facial Esthetics.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate-to-severe wrinkles on the forehead in people 18 to 65 years of age. JUVÉDERM™ is an injectable gel filler that is used to instantly smooth away creases around the mouth and nose. After one treatment individuals can achieve smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year.

In September of 2010, the Ohio State Dental Board granted approval for dentists to administer Botox and dermal fillers to their patients. "We are thrilled to be one of the first dentists in Ohio to offer facial esthetics to our patients. These therapies will complement our cosmetic dental services," explains Debra McIntosh, DMD.

According to the Allergan Corporation, the manufacturer of BOTOX® and Juvederm, approximately 10% of dentists in North America are currently providing BOTOX® injections to patients for cosmetic treatment.

Dentists have been trained in the oral and maxillofacial areas (chin to forehead) as much, or more than, other health care professionals who administer Botox and dermal fillers. A dentist's knowledge of these areas, in addition to having the training to take care of complications in facial areas, give them the ability to master the techniques of administering these non-surgical cosmetic treatments.

Women and men who have experienced fillers delivered with just topical skin anesthetics often say that the level of pain does not grant the results and would not go through the experience again. "As a dentist, I am very familiar with two things: the function of each muscle in the face and giving intra-oral injections," said Dr. McIntosh. Using BOTOX® in conjunction with dermal filler therapy, Dr. McIntosh will have the ability to provide patients nonsurgical alternatives to correcting conditions such as high lip lines. Typically she would have to perform a periodontal flap surgery in order to raise the gingival height to meet the lip line.

Dr. McIntosh's approach to cosmetic dentistry is personalized. She conducts a complete smile analysis that includes the patient's facial features. Now by applying dermal fillers, Dr. McIntosh can correct thinning lips and the wrinkles around the mouth to beautifully frame a gorgeous new smile.

Patients can schedule stand alone Botox and Juverderm treatments or they can be in combination with check-ups and other dental appointments. Botox treatments take about 10 minutes. Dr. McIntosh will also designate Botox and Juverderm days offering special pricing.

Dr. McIntosh is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia and has achieved a Master Level Certification in Cosmetic Dentistry from the Aesthetic Advantage Institute.
