Condition

Dawnia had a gummy smile that made her teeth appear short. She had dark, chipped, and broken teeth, two missing teeth, and decay around old worn fillings. Dawnia says that it was during mid-life crises when she decided she wanted to change her appearance. "If a person has a pretty smile, they look good and I want to feel good about how I look."

Procedure

The treatment plan for Dawnia involved three phases. First, Dr. McIntosh referred her to a periodontist for gum lift surgery or crown lengthening that would correct her gummy smile. Afterwards Dr. McIntosh restored all of her upper teeth; placing veneers and new fillings.

During the second phase, Dr. McIntosh worked again with a periodontist to replace Dawnia's two missing teeth with implants. The implants were firmly fixed in the surrounding bone. After healing for approximately six months, Dr. McIntosh completed the final phase by placing cutting edge white tooth colored abutments and ceramic crowns to match Dawnia's veneers.
