DENTAL OFFICE OF DR. DEBRA MCINTOSH, D.M.D. PURCHASES NEW TECHNOLOGY THAT DETECTS HIDDEN TOOTH DECAY IN EARLY STAGES
Deerfield Tsp, OH (January 11, 2002), The office of Dr. Debra McIntosh is pleased to announce their purchase of the latest technology that detects tooth decay below the surface of the tooth. DIAGNOdentTM uses a small laser instrument that scans the patients' teeth with a harmless laser light. "For dentists, this equipment is a breakthrough. It is a painless procedure and allows us to find smaller cavities and take care of them before they turn into larger cavities that can cause our patients more inconvenience," said Debra McIntosh, D.M.D.
According to Dr. McIntosh and literature from DIAGNOdent, locating hidden decay before it destroys tooth structure is a big problem in the modern dentistry. The widespread use of fluoride supplements in dental materials, toothpastes and drinking water have made tooth surfaces harder and more resistant to decay. Because of this, diagnosing cavities is more challenging because the disease process can start through microscopic defects in the hard surface enamel and can spread into the softer tooth structure beneath the surface. However, with DIAGNOdent, Dr. McIntosh can now monitor tooth surfaces to find hidden decay for her patients. "It makes more sense to detect and treat a smaller cavity now with the latest technology, before it turns into a larger cavity later," said Dr. McIntosh.
